Operating metrics

KPI

A key performance indicator used by a company to describe operating performance.

What it means

KPIs vary by company and industry. They can include subscribers, same-store sales, deliveries, bookings, retention, or other nonfinancial and financial operating measures.

Example

A retailer may disclose comparable sales, while a software company may disclose annual recurring revenue.

What not to infer

A KPI is not automatically comparable across companies unless definitions match.
